CNN Commentator compares Hillary Clinton to Glen Close in Fatal Attraction

That's right.  A commentator on CNN compared Hillary Clinton to the Glen Close character in Fatal Attraction.  A character that is portrayed as profoundly psychotic and violently unstable.  Is this funny?  Should we just laugh this off like the Iron My Shirt guys?  Is this funny like the t-shirt that says, "Bros before Hos" and has Barack and Hillary's picture?

It's not funny and it's not okay.

I'm a big Obama supporter, (2.00 / 3)

and I DESPISE the sexist way Clinton is treated by the pundits/talking heads/media mouths.  Gets me all riled up.

I expect Obama to win the nomination (and the presidency), but if it's Clinton instead, I look forward to her winning, partly because it'll piss off the sexists.  It won't piss them off quite as much as an Obama win would piss off the racists, but still satisfying.

Re: I'm a big Obama supporter, (2.00 / 2)

Thanks for saying that, we are totally on the same page.

Anyone want to join me in demonstrating in front of CNN? They deserve to see some real, live, angry protestors on the sidewalk outside their workplace. They cannot delete real people so easily as they do our emails. And maybe their commercial sponsors need to hear from us as well.

I'm leaving for NC shortly, does anyone want to carry the ball on this issue?

CNN Commentator compares Hillary to Glen Close (2.00 / 2)

Oh, that's just disgusting.

Would it more, less, or equally offensive if she had been compared to Rasputin?

Hillary has taken hits from all sides and she can take this one.  Just shows how stupid this man is with his sexism showing for all it's worth.  She has more balls than he has.

Actually, she has ovaries. (none / 0)

The make organ does not represent courage for a woman.   If you want a more analogous statement, just say she has big ovaries.

I must have missed that part of Fatal Attraction (none / 0)

I guess they left the film footage of the millions of supporters cheering on the Glenn Close character on the editing room floor.

This is a meme of the Obama campaign and its surrogates.  Hillary is just on her own selfish crusade and everyone except those in her campaign wishes she would just give up and go away.

by lombard on Tue Apr 29, 2008 at 04:50:47 PM EST

Hang on a sec (none / 0)

The Obama campaign doesn't say this.  The campaign says that she should stay in as long as she feels she can.

Some Obama supporters have primary fatigue and want it to be over already.

The more rational supporters want her to stay in as long as she can pay her bills and not give the Republicans ammunition against Obama in the fall.

A more provocative way that this meme has frequently been characterized is to say that Hillary has given up on winning the nomination but wants to make sure McCain beats Obama in November so she can run against McCain in 2012. How do you defend your candidate against that meme?

Re: Don;t be silly. (none / 0)

So you're saying that:

1) Hillary genuinely still sees a path to the nomination?

2) She doesn't see her strategy as hurting Obama's chances of beating McCain if Obama is the nominee?

3) Hillary would genuinely want Obama to win against McCain?

I say everyone call and complain the way Obama supporters do when they hear something they don't like.

No!!!!!! (none / 0)

They make me sick and I, for one, refuse to imitate them.  As for Hillary, she can take care of herself and that's one reason so many people are giving her a second look.  A bunch of us whining on her behalf will only diminish her stature like Obama's doofuses have diminished his.

Re: No!!!!!! (none / 0)

you know why we don't win? We let the media mow over us. The conservatives intimidate the media into giving the win to them, so why shouldn't we? I wanna win for once. bashing "the liberal media" is the GOP does so well, they move to accomodate them so much thye go all the way to the right

OK, maybe you're right (none / 0)

But we should be careful not to sound too whiney.  The crybaby nature of Obama's supporters in the electorate and the media had the effect of making an already somewhat weak candidate seem weaker.

Re: OK, maybe you're right (none / 0)

if we had complained to the media about their treatment of Bill Clinton during his presidency in the numbers conservatives complained about "bias" against the GOP and Republicans, Bill may not have been impeached, and Al Gore may have received an immense boost, enough to have won decisively. Bitching and moaning works. We SHOULD sound like "crybabies" because it will annoy them enough to be ultra cautious. If Hillary makes it to the White House, we must build an army to her as loyal as the GOP did to Bush. there nothing wrong with this because her policies will be good, unlike Bushes. hell, whichever Democrat wins we must build an army with an echo chamber like the conservatives have had for all this time.

Here it is on Media Matters (2.00 / 1)

http://mediamatters.org/items/2008042800 02?f=h_latest

On the April 27 edition of CNN's Sunday Morning, National Public Radio political editor Ken Rudin, during a discussion about the Democratic presidential primary race, stated: "[L]et's be honest here, [Sen.] Hillary Clinton is Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction. She's going to keep coming back, and they're not going to stop her."

"Life is too short, time is too precious, and the stakes are too high to dwell on what might have been." Hillary Rodham Clinton - June 7, 2008
by twinmom on Tue Apr 29, 2008 at 05:20:28 PM EST

It's also a stupid analogy (2.00 / 2)

Glenn Close's character was obsessed with Michael Douglas, and she was hellbent to seek revenge for being rejected by him.   This is not a love affair gone wrong, and Clinton is not out for revenge.  She's one tough candidate who is a tenacious fighter.  Unfortunately, men like this commentator don't see women as complex, fully-textured human beings.  Women to this guy are only defined by the men who they fuck, or mother.
